Way back in 1985 a few youngsters having foreseen the necessity to have a place for worship as well as for other social needs had taken a Holy decision to come together and pray Lord Krishna to achieve this objective, under the banner of SHREE KRISHNA BHAJANA SANGHAM. This group strived hard to collect small funds by performing Bhajans in various houses. This activity developed further by performing special functions on important days at Vittal Mandir at Duttawadi. The first public function of this group started on the Janmashtami day of 1985.
At this juncture, the Bhajana Sangam converged themselves into a legal entity by forming Shree Krishna Charitable Foundation and registered the body under Maharashtra Society Act. This was not the end but only the beginning. From there onwards-real activities started. In 1987 Charitable Foundation started searching for a piece of land with a view to setting up a temple dedicated to Shree Krishna of Guruvayoor where they could hold religious, social and cultural functions. The main problem was to locate an ideal land and it was Lord Krishna’s Will that he guided us to a great philanthropist and religious minded person Mr.Kantilalji Mohanlal Khinvasara , who offered a portion of his prime land near Nigdi Naka, off Bombay-Pune Road. Thus on the sacred Janmashtami day on 12th September,1987 , an idol of Lord Krishna was installed amidst Vedic chantings and Nama sankeertans by hundreds of devotees. The unique feature of this temple is the greatness that it is open to all devotees irrespective of cast, creed and religion, provided one has faith in the LORD.Gradually, with the wholehearted support and unstinted co-operation from devotees, coupled with relentless efforts of the Trustees and Members this was converted into a full-fledged Temple on 2nd April 1993 as per the traditional rites of Tantra Sastras at an auspicious time. This noble task of Temple construction in a unique style within a short period of time would not have been possible without the Divine Grace and the sincere prayers and whole hearted support of all the devotees.

Any project, especially a large one like this, could not be completed at one go, due to various reasons, including the time required for completions and the finance to fund it. However, we could complete the Phase I program of Temple in a grand scale on 2nd April 1993. Phase II of the program was the construction of DWAJA STHAMBA , the flag-staff without which no traditional Thantric Hindu temple can be considered complete. The work on the Dwaja Sthamba started on September 1994 and consecration ceremony performed with complete ritualistic Maha Pooja on April 1995. With the installation of Dwaja Sthamba, the Nigdi Shree Krishna Temple acquired the status of Mahakshetra.

The temple complex is as per the traditional Keralite Temple architecture. The CHUTTAMBALAM (outer circumference to the Shreekovil has ornate murals depicting the Dashavatara, the Thrimurthis, and various facts of Krishna Leelas. The Navagraha Murthis are enshrined in seven small Temples for Lord Ganapathy, Ayappa, Hanuman, Vaishnav Devi, Shiva, Subramanya and Nagas. In the year 1997, the third phase work was taken up of the temple complex. A beautiful marriage hall with attached kitchen was completed(Shree Krishna Sabhagruha). Marriage hall is provided with all amenities such as beautiful stage for marriage, chairs and table for dining, and chair for first and ground floors. The above hall was inaugurated in the month of Januray 1999.Now we are on the forth phase, a beautiful RAJAGOPURAM and NADAPURA (ANAKOTIL).
